Connect an Apple calendar
Add a private link to your iCloud calendar to your Zella calendar, so participants can't book you when you're busy. About 5 minutes.
Apple Calendar (iCloud) can't share busy times with a Google address, so it works through a link: you turn on a private link to your iCloud calendar, then add that link to your Zella calendar. You need a computer and about 5 minutes.
Warning
Anyone who has this link can see your events, including their titles. It isn't listed or searchable anywhere, and Zella Life only uses it to see when you're busy, but keep the link to yourself. If you'd rather not share one, see the option at the end.
Part 1: copy your calendar link (on iCloud.com)
- On a computer, go to icloud.com/calendar and sign in with your Apple Account.
- In the sidebar, hold the pointer over the calendar you keep appointments in, then click the Calendar Information button (the small "i") next to it.
- Turn on Public Calendar, then click Copy. Keep appointments in more than one calendar? Do this for each one.
Part 2: add the link to your Zella calendar
- Go to calendar.google.com signed in as your Zella address.
- On the left, next to Other calendars, click the plus sign, then From URL.
- Paste the link and click Add calendar. It appears under Other calendars.
Tip
If Google won't accept the link, change "webcal" at the start of it to "https" and try again.
Part 3: check it in Zella Life
- Go to the Calendar step in Zella Life (or Availability, if your setup is done). Your Apple calendar now appears under Calendars Zella can see. If it isn't there yet, refresh the page.
- During setup, click Confirm calendar.
Note
Google updates linked calendars on its own schedule, so a new Apple event can take up to a day to block your Zella time. Participants book at least 24 hours ahead, so this rarely matters. For anything last minute, also add a busy event to your Zella calendar.
Part 4: see your Zella sessions in Apple Calendar (recommended)
Add your Zella Google account to the Calendar app, so your sessions show next to your own events:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings, Apps, Calendar, Calendar Accounts, Add Account, Google, then sign in with your Zella address. On older versions: Settings, Calendar, Accounts.
- Mac: in Calendar, choose Settings, then Accounts, click the plus button, choose Google and sign in with your Zella address.
Session details stay inside your Zella account. Don't copy or forward them into your iCloud calendar.
Rather not share a link?
Continue the Calendar step without a personal calendar. Then set the exact hours you're free for Zella in Availability, add time off for days you're away, and add a busy event to your Zella calendar whenever something comes up during those hours.
To stop sharing at any time, turn off Public Calendar in iCloud. The link stops working, and Zella no longer sees when you're busy.
Apple's and Google's own steps: Share a calendar on iCloud.com and Use a link to add a public calendar.
